Ramadan 2022 style
This year’s most important religious season is approaching, and as well as being a month of fasting and a great period for spiritual contemplation, piety and giving back to the community, it’s a time to spend with family and friends – even if it’s via by phone, messaging, video calls or social media – It’s important to keep regular communication as most of us are currently in quarantine. This way we can all still maintain the family spirit by sharing and create memories even during these difficult and uncertain times.
Ramadan is our favourite time of the year. It’s the time to focus on prayer, overall spiritually and a period of self-reflection, creativity and introspection typified by fasting, prayer and reflection. In honour of this important month, we’ve put together our top styling tips for getting your Ramadan style right with minimum stress.
Keep It Simple
Ramadan is a month of sober reflection and modesty. Unlike the elaborate and flashy dressing at Eid, a more simplistic and muted approach to styling works better during this month. Think block colours, classic cuts and statement dresses.
The best part about keeping it simple? Getting dressed is much quicker when you take away the jewellery and elaborate accessories, so you have more time to focus on other things. Be clean, be covered and be presentable.
Here are five key items we swear by that can really help you find and maintain your style during Ramadan
- Abaya – These are super easy to wear and requires little to no layering effort.
- Tunics – Casual and easy to style. Where can you go wrong.
- Maxi dresses – Covered and easy to style. No matter what the colour.
- Cardigans And Jackets – Essential to wear over open/sleeveless blouses and dresses.
- Plain Hijabs – BLACK and neutral colours.
Ramadan 2020 is a time of preparation and careful planning. Throughout the month, Muslims all around the world reflect on their faith and await Eid and its promise of spiritual renewal and refreshment. But that’s not the only bit of planning required throughout this sacred month.
There are meal plans to do, grocery shopping lists to complete and social plans for the family gatherings and so much more — and as the saying goes, “fail to prepare, prepare to fail”. If you’re fasting, you’re more prone to be tired and stretched thin throughout the day, so you need to take every precaution to make life as easy as possible while you dedicate yourself to spiritual reflection.
But have you ever thought of planning your daily outfits?
Try planning a few key outfits for various occasions each week for example, your in house comfort wear, your local grocery outfit etc – hang them up or keep them somewhere close in preparation for whenever you need them.
With many of us still in quarantine you won’t have to worry too much about whoever turns up or what invites you receive. When you do decide to have an unplanned trip to the shop for the last minute Iftar ingredients that are essential to THAT special dish, being organised a little will go a long way in making sure you are not in a stressful panic to find something to wear. It’ll also ensure that you look impeccable throughout this month of Ramadan.
Although we are staying safe by stying indoors as much as possible, Ramadan is still a busy time for the Muslim community. Not only is there the shopping to get done, there’s also a heightened impetus to pray. As such It goes without saying that praying in a full ball gown with puffy sleeves isn’t ideal, so be practical. If you plan to attend to prayer or if you have other plans such as a family get-together, pick an outfit that would work for both occasions.
Think long styled kimonos, summer dresses and pleated skirts. Try to mix and match pieces in your wardrobe that, if combination, would give you chic and comfortable vibes. These loose-fitting, breathable and flexible clothes are some the best choices during Ramadan. And depending on where in the world you’re, don’t forget about the heat. Kaftans, floaty-style dresses and palazzo trousers in summer friendly fabrics and seasonal tones are perfect for beating the heat while staying comfortable and looking fresh and effortlessly elegant.
